The story

From a downtown LA studio
to 6,000 feet of pine.

Miguel Torres spent years designing out of a studio in downtown Los Angeles. Then the mountains called — first a single farmers-market booth up the hill, then weekends in Arrowbear and Running Springs, and finally a permanent home on Hilltop Boulevard.

He noticed something on the way up: people dress differently at altitude. Out of that came his craft of upcycling — taking existing garments and reworking them by hand with bears, pines, and ridgelines until each piece is unmistakably of the mountain, and unmistakably one of a kind.

Today the shop is stitched into the community in the most literal sense: Miguel created the tree and bear cutouts you'll spot throughout the Running Springs central shopping area, and the shelves carry handcrafted jewelry and decor from neighboring mountain artisans.

Leave the valley behind.

From the 210 in San Bernardino, take the Highway 330 exit and point the car uphill. The freeway curves south; you keep climbing.

Climb the switchbacks.

Highway 330 stacks turn on turn. Each one trades a little city for a little forest — roll the windows down and you'll smell the pines before you see them.

Five thousand feet.

Past the tree line the air cools and the San Bernardino National Forest closes in around you.

Right on the 18.

Where the 330 meets Highway 18, turn east into Running Springs. Look for the bear and tree cutouts — Miguel made those. The shop is right here on Hilltop Blvd.

    Is the shop really open all year?

    Yes — Mountain Harmony is a year-round shop, generally Sunday through Thursday, 10am–5pm. During heavy snow, hours can shift; a quick look at Instagram or a message through the contact form will save you a wasted drive (though the drive is never really wasted up here).

    What does “upcycled” mean here?

    Miguel takes existing garments — denim, flannel, canvas — and reworks them by hand with mountain motifs. Nothing is mass-produced and no two pieces are the same. It's sustainable, and it's wearable art.

    Can I commission a custom piece?

    Absolutely. Bring a garment you love that needs new life, or describe what you're imagining. Commissions are open year-round; turnaround depends on the piece. Start with the contact form below.

    Do you ship, or sell online?

    Mountain Harmony is an in-person experience by design — part of the joy is the drive up and finding the piece that finds you. For commissions or special arrangements, reach out and we'll figure something out.

    Where can I park?

    There's convenient parking along Hilltop Blvd in the Running Springs central shopping area. In winter, carry chains for the 330 when storms roll through — Caltrans checkpoints are common on snow days.

    Miguel is a regular at mountain-community markets around Running Springs, Arrowbear, and Crestline. Dates move with the seasons — Instagram is the best place for the current schedule.
